10 / COMMON QUESTIONSA FEW THINGS WE'RE ASKED
COMMON QUESTIONS
Let's talk it through.
Every animal is different. A conversation and an examination can tell us far more than a general answer.
Call (415) 721-749401What types of animals do you see?
We see mammals, reptiles and amphibians. We do not treat fish, but can recommend local providers better suited to them.
02I have a question about a problem with my pet. Can you advise me here?
An answer about symptoms or treatment needs an examination. Please call (415) 721-7494 to arrange an appointment and tell us what you have noticed.
03How can I find information on this website?
The Services and Health Plan pages describe the care offered, and this page answers common questions. If you do not find what you need, call us and we can help you find the right information.
04Do you recommend other pet-care resources?
Yes. Our team can suggest resources appropriate to your animal and question. General information can help you learn, but it cannot replace an assessment of your own pet.
05Why does veterinary care cost what it does?
Veterinary care involves trained people, medicines, equipment, diagnostics and the time needed to assess each animal. Costs depend on the care your pet needs. Please ask us to explain the recommended options and their costs.
06Are vaccines necessary, and how often should my pet receive them?
Vaccines protect against serious diseases. The right vaccines and schedule depend on your pet’s species, age, health and exposure risks. We can discuss a plan during a visit.
07If my pet receives a preventive, why might testing still be needed?
A preventive reduces risk but does not guarantee that an animal is protected. A dose can be missed or not fully absorbed, and testing may check for more than one condition. We will recommend testing based on your pet’s situation.
08Why can medication cost less online?
Online retailers and clinics can have different purchasing costs. What matters is that the medication is appropriate for your pet and comes from a reliable source with proper storage and dispensing. Ask us about your options before ordering.
09What makes West End Animal Center different?
Dr. Frye founded the center to bring a country-practice feel into an urban setting: modern veterinary care in a comfortable, personal environment. The practice also sees mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
10Do you offer discounted veterinary care?
We do not offer a general discount on individual veterinary care. The Animal Health Plan has described member benefits and savings; please call for current membership terms and to discuss the recommended care and costs for your pet.
